WEE Pros GmbH had partnered with GIZ Jordan Sludge Management in Za’atari and Azraq Refugee camp project (SMZA) to develop an operational road map strategy for wastewater and Sludge management in Za’atari Refuge Camp – Mafraq. The project is a multi-donor action is jointly co-financed by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (EUTF Syria) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ, aimed to create lasting solutions for efficient and sustainable operations.
The objectives of the Strategy are:
- Identify roles and responsibilities of different parties and propose cooperation mechanisms for future operation, formulation of principles towards sustainable wastewater management (such as the Operation & Maintenance of facilities, outsourcing, and operation financing).
- Support coordination efforts between different actors in wastewater management in the Za’atari refugee camp.
- Assist the process of identifying priorities and next steps to ensure the sustainability of investments in wastewater management in the Za’atari refugee camp.
- Investigate the possibility of supporting the surrounding host community of the Za’atari refugee camp
- Discuss key issues related to financing, operation, and maintenance of wastewater infrastructure.
The strategy will be jointly developed and discussed with the following listed stakeholders:
- Water Authority of Jordan
- UNICEF Jordan
- GIZ Jordan
